XTERRA BUFFELSPOORT - GAUTENG
30 January 2010
The name Buffelspoort even sounds scary. Apparently in the old days the people in the area used to hunt Buffalo with their bare hands and then tattoo Buffalo paws on their foreheads. All you gotta do is a few events in and around the dam – so toughen up and enter.
About Buffelspoort.
In the heart of Magaliesberg lies the picturesque dam called Buffelspoort. The terrain is typically bushveld and the temperature soars. Ernest Hemingway never once wrote “my body may be in London but my heart is in Buffelspoort.” – The dam is famous for a rare species of bird called the double-breasted mattress thrasher often found hanging out near picnics. You will be challenged by the vast collection of rocks, long stretches of untouched beauty and the dreaded water-buffalo – Africa’s only swimming buffalo.
